Before going live, run a quick tech check to optimize your setup and ensure a smooth stream. After you’ve created your first event and are familiar with the host controls, it’s time to make sure your equipment and connection are ready.
Run a Test Event
We strongly recommend running at least one test event before your live session.
Use the exact setup you plan to use on the day of your event, including:
The same browser
The same device
Any external equipment (camera, microphone, etc.)
Practice:
Sharing media
Using in-event features
Bringing guests on stage (if applicable)
To run a test:
Create an unlisted Crowdcast event
Go live as you normally would.
Unlisted events won’t notify your followers and remain private. For added security, you can also set a password. Running a test event does count towards your monthly hours, so be mindful of how long you run your test event. You can also test things out in the greenroom without going live.
Pre-Event Checklist
Before going live, review the following:
Restart your computer: A quick restart can improve overall performance and reduce potential issues.
Use a supported browser - Crowdcast works best on:
Chrome (preferred)
Microsoft Edge
Opera
Update your browser: Outdated browsers can cause performance issues. Make sure you're using the latest version. If using Chrome, here's how you can check for updates.
Close unnecessary apps and tabs: Too many open programs can slow down your system and cause lag.
Check your internet connection: Use a stable connection and run a quick speed test before going live. Recommended speeds:
Hosts & presenters (upload):
Minimum: 3–5 Mbps
Ideal: 8–10 Mbps or higher
Viewers (download):
Minimum: 2–5 Mbps
Use headphones
This helps prevent echo or audio feedback from your speakers.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you experience sluggish performance:
Refresh your browser window
Restart your browser
Rejoin your event
💡 Pro tip: Inviting a guest on stage? Send them this guest checklist first!
Hosting on a Shared Network?
If you're using a workplace or shared network, firewall restrictions may block required ports and affect your ability to go live. Check with your IT team if needed.
