How to Include Captioning

This guide provides an overview of how viewers can enable captions using built-in browser features.

Updated today

At this time, Crowdcast does not have built-in subtitles or captioning, but we have it on our roadmap to improve accessibility. In the meantime, many Chromium-based browsers offer a built-in Live Captions feature that viewers can enable on their own devices.

Enabling Live Captions in Your Browser

Live Captions are available in several Chromium-based browsers, including Chrome, Edge, and Opera. Below are instructions on how to enable them:

Google Chrome

  1. Click on the three-dot menu in the upper right-hand corner.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the Accessibility section and click Manage accessibility features.

  4. Toggle the Live Caption button to On.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click on the three-dot menu in the upper right-hand corner.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the System section and click Accessibility.

  4. Toggle the Closed captions button to On.

Opera

  1. Click on the Opera menu button.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the Advanced section and click Features.

  4. Toggle the Easy Setup button to On.

  5. Click Accessibility to access additional settings.

How Live Captions Work

Once enabled, Live Captions will automatically appear in a small, moveable box at the bottom of your browser whenever you’re watching or listening to content that includes speech.

Troubleshooting

If you don’t see Live Captions after enabling them:

  • Try manually updating your browser.

  • Restart your browser to apply changes.

Important Notes

  • This setup is on the viewer’s end and does not affect the actual video feed.

  • Captions are only visible to the individual who enables them and are not shared across the event stream.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to work on native captioning within Crowdcast!
