How to Enable Live Captions While Using Crowdcast

Accessible Options for Mac, PC, Android, and iOS

Crowdcast does not yet offer built-in live captions, but we’re committed to making our platform more accessible. Fortunately, there are great tools available on your devices and browsers that make it easy to enable real-time captions during live or recorded events.

This guide walks you through how to enable captions whether you’re using a Mac, PC, Android, or iOS device.


🖥️ DESKTOP SETUP: Mac & Windows

Windows 11Built-In Live Captions

  1. Go to StartSettingsAccessibilityCaptions.

  2. Toggle on Live Captions.

  3. A bar will appear on your screen with real-time transcription of any audio.

💡 Pro Tip: Works with all browser and app audio. You can also move and resize the caption window and customize font and background styles.


macOSNow Includes Live Captions (Beta)

macOS now includes a Live Captions (Beta) feature in newer versions (macOS Ventura and later), but you may need to enable beta updates first to see the option.

Turn Live Captions On or Off (macOS Ventura or later)

  1. Go to the Apple menuSystem Settings.

  2. Click Accessibility in the sidebar.

  3. Scroll down and select Captions on the right.

  4. Toggle Live Captions (Beta) ON.

A floating caption window will appear on-screen and stay visible during audio playback—including when watching Crowdcast events.


🌐 BROWSER OPTIONS FOR ANY DESKTOP

Chrome (Windows or Mac)

  1. Go to chrome://settings/accessibility.

  2. Toggle on Live Caption.

  3. Captions will appear automatically for any audio playing in Chrome—including Crowdcast events.

Edge (Windows or Mac)

  1. Go to edge://settings/accessibility.

  2. Turn on Live Captions.

  3. Works the same way as Chrome’s version.


📱 MOBILE SETUP: Android & iOS

Android DevicesLive Captions Built-In

  • Press the volume button → tap the Live Caption icon (a speech bubble) if visible.

  • Or go to SettingsSound & vibrationLive Caption → toggle Use Live Caption to ON.

  • Or go to SettingsAccessibilityLive Caption → toggle Use Live Caption to ON.

  • Android 10+ supported, Android 11+ recommended.


iOS DevicesBuilt-In Support

Accessibility Captions

  • Go to SettingsAccessibilitySubtitles & Captioning.

  • Toggle Closed Captions + SDH ON.

  • Works with live events in browser and app.

  • Compatible devices (iPhone 11+).
